Help for sending
The focus of lily is interpersonal communication; as such the most often used
function is sending messages. Messages have one basic format but with a few
tricks you need to be aware of before starting.
The basic message format is recipients;message".The list of recipients is a
comma-separated list of people or discussions to whom the message should be
given (i.e. isis, pris, gourmet would go to Isis, Prisoner, and the gourmet
discussion). The ';' character can actually be either a ';' or a ':', the system
doesn't care. Everything after that character is taken to be the text of the
message and sent to the recipients list.
Now for the tricks of the trade. If you leave out the recipients (i.e. ";good
morning") then the message is sent to the last person you sent to. If you leave
off the ';' entirely, the message is sent to your default sendlist (see "/help
send"). If the user has a space in their name, or there is a conflict between a
discussion and a user name, that will create more tricky situations - see "/help
naming" for more details on those cases.
PyLily has added some new capabilities related to sending messages. See below
for more details:
Unicode: PyLily supports Unicode text in both names and messages, including
emojis. See "/help sending unicode" for details.
Rich text and color: PyLily supports text styling and coloring, including the
ability to add such styling to messages you send. See "/help sending markup" for
details.
Multi-line messages: PyLily has options to send pre-formatted multi-line
messages where line breaks are preserved. See "/help sending multi_line" for
details.
